Phoenix, Arizona – Brutal summer heat is back across central Arizona, with dangerous 111°F highs forecast for Phoenix starting Sunday and persisting into midweek.

According to the National Weather Service, an Extreme Heat Watch is in effect from Tuesday morning through Thursday evening for much of Maricopa County, including Phoenix, Tempe, Glendale, Scottsdale, Mesa, and Avondale. Heat-related illness risk will spike, especially between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., when temperatures will be at their peak.

A High Pollution Advisory is also in effect for Monday, with ozone levels expected to reach unhealthy thresholds across the Phoenix Metro Area. The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality advises residents to limit outdoor exertion, especially children, seniors, and those with respiratory issues. Use public transit or carpool if possible, and delay gas-powered yard work until later in the evening.

Sunday through Tuesday, temperatures will soar above 110°F, with Sunday’s high near 109°F, Monday’s at 111°F, and Tuesday matching 111°F. Winds will be light but offer little relief, and nighttime lows will remain in the upper 80s.

Cooling centers are open across Maricopa County — call 2-1-1 to find the nearest location. Workers, especially on construction sites or road crews, are urged to hydrate regularly and schedule breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.

This level of heat is considered a Major Heat Risk, capable of causing heat stroke, exhaustion, or cramps without prompt intervention.
