Las Vegas, Nevada – Dangerously high temperatures are expected across the Southwest this Father’s Day, with an Extreme Heat Warning in effect for lower elevations of southern Nevada, southeastern California, and northwestern Arizona from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Las Vegas, prolonged exposure to this intense heat could lead to heat-related illness, especially for those without air conditioning. Cities under warning include Las Vegas, Bullhead City, Lake Havasu, and Barstow, with daytime highs potentially exceeding 110°F.

Travelers and residents are urged to reschedule outdoor plans to early morning or evening hours. The NWS advises drinking water frequently, using sunscreen, and avoiding alcohol, caffeine, and protein-heavy meals which raise body temperature. Children and pets should never be left in vehicles, even briefly, as car interiors can reach deadly levels in minutes.

Outdoor workers and hikers should be especially cautious along desert highways such as I-15, US-95, and AZ Route 95, where heat exposure is intensified by reflective surfaces.

The heat warning is expected to expire by Sunday evening, but similar alerts could return next week if the heatwave persists.
