Flagstaff, Arizona – Above-average rain and hotter conditions are expected across much of Arizona this summer, as the 2025 monsoon season kicks off June 15 and continues through September 30.
According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, the strongest chances for increased rainfall center on east-central Arizona, while the rest of the state — excluding Yuma — has a 33–50% chance of above-normal precipitation. The seasonal outlook also indicates higher-than-average temperatures statewide, compounding the risks of flash flooding and heat-related illnesses.
Cities like Flagstaff (average 7.63” monsoon rainfall) and Tucson (5.69”) could exceed normal totals, especially after a very dry winter that has set the stage for more intense summer storms. Meanwhile, Phoenix and Kingman may see slightly above-normal rain, though Yuma remains the outlier with little expected change.
Officials urge residents to prepare now: avoid driving through flooded washes, secure outdoor equipment, and sign up for local emergency alerts. With Monsoon Awareness Week set for June 8–14, expect more safety tips and hazard updates.
More advisories will be issued as monsoon conditions develop. Stay weather-aware through late September.
