Phoenix, AZ — High winds are sweeping through Arizona’s Lower Colorado River Valley on Monday, creating challenging driving conditions and blowing dust. Travelers on Interstates 8 and 10, particularly those driving high-profile vehicles, are urged to exercise caution as gusts could reach up to 45 mph. The winds are expected to pick up around sunrise and continue through the afternoon, bringing risks of sudden crosswinds and blowing debris.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Phoenix, winds from the north are forecasted to create localized blowing dust, potentially impacting visibility on highways. Motorists should be especially careful when crossing bridges or passing larger vehicles, as sudden gusts can destabilize lightweight or high-profile vehicles. NWS advises drivers to keep both hands on the wheel, slow down, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.

Residents in affected areas are also encouraged to secure outdoor items, as loose objects can easily be swept up by the wind, creating additional hazards. Temporary structures like tents should be anchored firmly to avoid damage or displacement.

Looking ahead, Phoenix residents can expect a calmer day on Tuesday, with a high near 73°F and light winds. The forecast remains favorable for the rest of the week, with mostly sunny skies and temperatures gradually dipping to highs in the upper 60s by Thursday. Nights will stay clear and cool, with lows ranging between 44°F and 50°F.

For those in southwest Arizona and southeast California, vigilance on the roads and securing belongings are crucial for navigating today’s high winds safely.
