Tucson, AZ – A freeze warning has been issued for much of Southern Arizona, with temperatures expected to dip into the upper 20s to low 30s overnight. Residents in the Tucson Metro area, Southeast and South Central Pinal County, and Tohono O’odham Nation are urged to take precautions as temperatures drop below freezing from midnight Tuesday until 9 a.m. Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service, frost and freezing conditions could cause significant damage to crops and outdoor vegetation. Unprotected outdoor plumbing is also at risk of freezing. Officials recommend wrapping exposed pipes, bringing pets indoors, and covering sensitive plants.
Temperatures are forecasted to stay chilly throughout the week, with slightly warmer conditions expected by the weekend. Overnight lows are projected to remain in the 30s, though daytime highs may climb to the mid-60s by Friday.
Drivers should also be cautious in the early morning hours, as frost on the roads could create slick conditions. State Route 77 and Interstate 10 are expected to be affected by icy patches, particularly in rural areas.
