Flagstaff, AZ – A heightened fire risk is prompting Red Flag Warnings across northern Arizona, with critical fire weather conditions expected through Sunday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, warnings remain in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. MST (noon to 9 p.m. MDT) both Saturday and Sunday. Affected areas include Navajo and Apache counties and the White Mountains, encompassing cities such as Show Low, Holbrook, Winslow, Saint Johns, and Snowflake-Taylor, as well as parts of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest.
Forecasters report sustained southwest winds between 15 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching up to 40 mph. Relative humidity could drop as low as 5%, significantly increasing the potential for rapid wildfire spread.
Officials urge residents and field crews to avoid any activities that could spark flames. Burning is strictly discouraged, and people should secure outdoor equipment and remain alert for smoke or fire.
The combination of strong winds and dry air creates dangerous conditions for fire growth and poses risks to first responders’ ability to contain outbreaks quickly.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from the National Weather Service at weather.gov/flagstaff and follow local emergency management instructions.
