Phoenix, AZ – A Red Flag Warning remains in effect across central Arizona this weekend as strong winds and dry conditions increase fire danger. The warning, issued by the National Weather Service, is in effect from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, and impacts Phoenix, the central deserts, and Southern Gila County, including the Tonto National Forest Foothills.
According to the National Weather Service, winds will range from 20 to 30 mph, with gusts reaching up to 45 mph. Relative humidity is expected to drop as low as 8%, significantly increasing the risk of wildfires. Officials warn that any fires that ignite could spread rapidly due to the combination of low humidity, strong winds, and dry vegetation.
Residents should avoid outdoor burning and secure loose objects that could be blown away by the winds. Fire crews remain on high alert, and authorities urge people to report any signs of fire immediately.
Looking ahead, Phoenix will see a warm and breezy start to March, with high temperatures reaching the mid-70s through the week. Sunday, March 2, will bring mostly sunny skies and a high of 77°F, while Monday will be slightly cooler at 70°F. Breezy conditions are expected to continue, though winds should calm by Tuesday.
A slight chance of showers returns on Thursday, but dry and sunny conditions will dominate the forecast through next week.
