Phoenix, AZ – A high pollution advisory is set to take effect for the Phoenix metro area on Wednesday, as ozone levels are expected to reach dangerous concentrations. The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) issued the Ozone High Pollution Advisory today, warning residents of potential health risks, especially for children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions.

According to the ADEQ, weather conditions combined with existing ozone levels will cause local 8-hour concentrations to spike, posing significant risks to air quality. As ozone levels rise, adverse health effects are likely to increase, particularly for sensitive groups. Breathing difficulties and irritation are common symptoms of high ozone exposure.

The advisory urges residents to reduce physical activity outdoors, particularly during the heat of the day. It is also recommended to carpool, telecommute, or use public transportation to reduce emissions. Avoid using gasoline-powered equipment, or limit its use to late in the day when ozone levels are lower.

For more details on the advisory or to monitor air quality, residents can visit the ADEQ website or contact their office directly.

The advisory is in effect for Maricopa County, including the Phoenix metro area, and will remain active through Wednesday.
