Baltimore, MD – A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for parts of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia starting Thursday. Forecasters predict heavy snow, high winds, and hazardous conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, Garrett County in Maryland could receive 6 to 12 inches of snow, with locally higher amounts possible in elevated areas. Winds may gust up to 50 mph, increasing the risk of whiteout conditions. This storm is expected to impact travel and may cause power outages from Thursday afternoon through Saturday evening.

Officials urge residents to prepare by avoiding nonessential travel. If travel is necessary, individuals should bring a winter survival kit, including tire chains, blankets, water, and emergency tools. The combination of strong winds and heavy snow could down power lines, posing additional challenges.

Drivers are warned to expect visibility below 1/4 mile at times, making road conditions dangerous. Residents should monitor weather updates closely and plan for potential delays or disruptions.

This winter storm underscores the importance of readiness as Maryland braces for its first significant snowfall of the season.
