Cleveland, OH – An Arctic airmass will send temperatures plummeting across the Great Lakes, East Coast, and Southeast this weekend. Wind chills could dip below zero in northern states, with teens and 20s extending as far south as Georgia and the Carolinas.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the frigid weather will coincide with the winter solstice early Saturday morning, creating hazardous conditions. States like Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania are expected to feel wind chills as low as -10°F, while New York and New England brace for similar icy conditions.

The cold won’t stop there. Southern states, including Kentucky, Tennessee, and Alabama, could experience unseasonably cold wind chills in the 20s. Officials urge residents throughout these regions to bundle up, limit outdoor activity, and check on vulnerable neighbors.

The NWS advises travelers to prepare for slick roads and delays, especially in areas with subzero wind chills. Frostbite can occur in minutes with exposure to these extreme conditions.
