Caribou, ME – A powerful winter storm is set to impact northern Maine on Monday, bringing heavy snowfall, strong winds, and hazardous travel conditions. Residents should prepare for low visibility and difficult driving as gusts could reach up to 45 mph.

According to the National Weather Service, snow will begin early Monday morning and intensify throughout the day, with accumulations between 10 and 20 inches expected. The worst conditions will be in northern Aroostook County, where blowing snow may create whiteout conditions. Wind chills could drop as low as -6°F, making outdoor exposure dangerous.

By Tuesday morning, the storm will taper off, but frigid Arctic air will follow. Wind chills as low as -30°F are expected overnight into Tuesday, increasing the risk of frostbite. Residents are urged to stay indoors, stock up on essentials, and avoid unnecessary travel.

The rest of the week will remain cold, with highs struggling to reach the low 20s. Sunny skies return by Wednesday, but temperatures will stay below freezing.
