Green Bay, WI – An Arctic air mass is on track to sweep through Wisconsin midweek, bringing dangerously cold temperatures, blowing snow, and life-threatening wind chills as low as -25°F. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued alerts urging residents to prepare for the frigid conditions, expected to begin Wednesday afternoon and persist through Friday morning.
The cold front will bring snow showers and gusty winds Wednesday, creating blowing and drifting snow that could severely reduce visibility. Travel is expected to be hazardous, particularly in open areas. By Wednesday night, wind chill values will plummet to well below zero, with Green Bay and surrounding areas facing some of the coldest conditions.
According to the NWS, cities like Appleton, Green Bay, and Oshkosh could see wind chills ranging from -20°F to -25°F, while northern parts of the state may experience even lower readings. Frostbite can occur within minutes on exposed skin under such conditions.
Residents are encouraged to limit outdoor activities, dress in multiple layers, and cover all exposed skin. Officials also urge people to check on vulnerable neighbors, bring pets indoors, and prepare homes and vehicles for the extreme cold.
Blowing snow will complicate commutes and outdoor tasks, so motorists should monitor road conditions and carry emergency supplies. Snow showers may diminish by Thursday, but the bitter cold will linger until Friday morning.
Stay tuned for updates and alerts as the cold front approaches. Use this time to stock up on winter essentials and plan for altered travel schedules.
