Arapahoe County, CO – A shoplifting call at a Centennial liquor store turned into a violent altercation Tuesday afternoon, leaving several people assaulted before deputies arrived, according to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said the incident began around 3 p.m. on October 29 at Dry Creek Liquors in the 7500 block of South University Boulevard. Deputies were dispatched after a man and woman allegedly stole multiple items and attempted to flee.
According to witnesses, two store clerks followed the suspects into the parking lot, where the pair allegedly tried to back their vehicle into one of them before accelerating toward both. A male clerk reportedly threw a rock at the car’s rear window to stop them. The suspects then exited the vehicle and allegedly assaulted the clerks, with the female suspect using pepper spray.
The confrontation continued inside the store, where several citizens stepped in to help. One Good Samaritan was reportedly bitten by the female suspect during the struggle. Deputies arrived soon after and safely detained both suspects.
Animal Services also responded and took custody of a cat found inside the suspects’ vehicle, officials said.
The sheriff’s office thanked responding deputies and the citizens who intervened during the altercation.
