Appalachian Region Weather Alert: 1–3 Inches of Snow Expected Monday, Travel Caution Urged

Blacksburg, VA – The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of northwest North Carolina, southwest and west-central Virginia, and southeast West Virginia, in effect from 1 a.m. Monday to 1 a.m. Tuesday, December 9.

Forecasters say 1 to 3 inches of snow are expected across the region, with locally higher amounts possible above 3,000 feet. The advisory area includes Boone, Wytheville, Roanoke, Blacksburg, Lewisburg, and Bluefield.

According to the Weather Service, snow will begin early Monday morning, becoming steadier through midday before tapering late Monday night. Roadways may become slick, particularly on untreated or elevated surfaces, and travel could be hazardous during the morning and evening commutes.

Drivers are urged to reduce speed, allow extra travel time, and check road conditions before departing. The greatest impacts are expected along the Blue Ridge Parkway and higher mountain routes in Virginia and North Carolina.
