Amarillo, Texas – Texans in Amarillo should brace for a sharp change late Thursday as isolated thunderstorms could arrive after sunset, followed by rising weekend heat. While Thursday will stay sunny and near 88°F, slight chances of storms Thursday night may impact evening travel—especially along I-40.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, a 20% chance of thunderstorms begins Thursday night and repeats Friday night. Winds will stay steady from the south at 10 to 15 mph, but sudden gusts could accompany any storm cells. Though the severe threat is low, brief downpours and wind shifts could affect visibility and driving conditions after 8 p.m. Thursday.

Friday will bring more intense heat, with a high near 91°F under mostly sunny skies. Another round of isolated storms could develop late Friday into early Saturday. No major hazardous weather is expected, but residents are advised to monitor updates, especially if outdoor plans are in place.

The Texas Panhandle will stay mostly dry but hot through early next week, with highs in the mid-90s and light south winds dominating the pattern. Use caution during afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and limit strenuous activity outdoors.
