Albany, New York – Snow showers could begin affecting stretches of I-87 and I-90 by Tuesday night as multiple systems line up to bring periods of rain and snow through late next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, an active weather pattern will take shape beginning Monday and continue through at least Thursday night. Several disturbances may move across eastern New York, bringing intermittent chances for snow or rain, especially during the evening and overnight hours.
Temperatures start the week on the colder side, with valley lows dipping into the single digits to teens Monday night. By Tuesday night, a system may bring a 40 percent chance of snow, particularly across higher elevations and areas north and west of Albany. Light accumulations could create slick spots along I-87 from Albany to Saratoga Springs and along I-90 west toward Schenectady.
Another round of precipitation is possible Wednesday night into Thursday, with snow or a rain-snow mix depending on surface temperatures. Commuters along I-787 and Route 7 should prepare for reduced visibility during heavier bursts and patchy ice on bridges and overpasses.
By late week, temperatures are expected to moderate, with daytime highs returning to the 40s in valley locations. That warming trend may lead to more rain than snow during later systems, but nighttime refreezing remains a concern.
Drivers should monitor daily updates, allow extra travel time during precipitation periods and keep winter safety kits in vehicles. Additional advisories may be issued as each system approaches and confidence in timing and totals increases.
