Anchorage, AK – Severe weather is impacting the Anchorage area as a powerful low-pressure system moves through Southcentral Alaska. The U.S. National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning and a Flood Advisory for the region, urging residents to take precautions. Winds along Turnagain Arm and Anchorage Hillside are expected to reach 40-50 mph, with gusts up to 80 mph, while southeast winds of 35-45 mph are anticipated in other parts of Anchorage.

According to the National Weather Service, the High Wind Warning will remain in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday. The Flood Advisory, affecting areas such as Campbell Creek and Chester Creek, will be in effect until 8 p.m. Sunday due to the ongoing heavy rainfall.

Residents are advised to secure loose items, avoid travel in high-profile vehicles, and stay informed about the latest weather updates. The combination of strong winds and heavy rain increases the risk of flooding, downed trees, and power outages. The storm is expected to gradually weaken by Monday, though rain showers may persist into the early week.
