Residents in Alaska’s Kuskokwim Delta are facing coastal flood warnings as water levels are predicted to rise 3 to 6 feet above normal tides. Flooding and erosion are expected, with the worst impacts forecasted from Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning. Winds are expected to be strong, worsening coastal erosion along the delta and adjacent coastal regions. Those in low-lying areas should move to higher ground and take necessary precautions as flooding is anticipated to be similar to that experienced in August 2024.

According to the National Weather Service in Anchorage, a coastal flood advisory is also in place for the Goodnews Bay area, with water levels 2 to 5 feet above normal tides. Flooding is predicted to be most severe from Monday night through Tuesday morning, driven by strong winds and high tides.

Actions to Take

Residents are urged to monitor updates, secure property, and prepare for changing conditions through Tuesday. Move items to higher ground and avoid coastal areas until the waters recede.
