Huntsville, AL – Northern Alabama and southern Middle Tennessee are under a Winter Storm Watch starting late Thursday night, with forecasts calling for 4 to 8 inches of snow by Friday evening. The National Weather Service warns that travel will likely become hazardous as heavy snow blankets the region.

According to the NWS Huntsville, the Winter Storm Watch will be in effect from midnight Friday through 6 a.m. Saturday. Snow is expected to begin late Thursday, transitioning to a rain-snow mix by midday Friday. Roads, especially bridges and overpasses, are expected to freeze quickly, creating dangerous driving conditions. Residents are urged to delay travel if possible and prepare now for disruptions.

Highways like I-65 and local routes in areas such as Huntsville, Florence, and Fayetteville, TN, could see significant impacts. Visibility may drop, and tree limbs may fall under the weight of wet snow. Temperatures will remain near freezing, with a low of 28°F Friday night and wind chill values in the teens.

Looking ahead, Saturday will bring clearer skies, with highs around 36°F, while Sunday offers some relief with sunny conditions and highs near 40°F. However, residents should expect overnight lows to stay in the teens and twenties through early next week.

Ensure your vehicle is winter-ready, stock up on essentials, and monitor updates from the National Weather Service.
