Birmingham, AL – Severe thunderstorms are expected to roll through Alabama this afternoon, with the risk of severe weather focused in the southern half of the state. While temperatures will reach the low to mid-80s, the real concern will be the potential for powerful storms, some of which may turn severe. The risk of thunderstorms will move northward throughout the night, bringing rain and general thunderstorms through the early morning hours.

According to the National Weather Service, residents in the southern part of Alabama can expect storms to develop as early as this afternoon. Areas like Montgomery, Troy, and Auburn should be prepared for gusty winds, heavy rain, and possible hail. As the storms move northward, the Birmingham metro area and northern counties like Tuscaloosa and Gadsden will also experience rain and storms, though the severe threat diminishes further north.

Temperatures across the state are expected to peak in the low 80s today, with highs around 81°F in Clanton, 82°F in Selma, and 84°F in Montgomery. However, a noticeable drop in temperatures is anticipated overnight, with lows ranging from the mid-50s in northern Alabama to the low 60s further south.

The thunderstorms should persist into the early morning hours on Thursday, with warnings remaining in effect as conditions develop. Stay weather-aware and have an emergency plan in place, especially if you live in the southern half of the state, where the threat is highest.
