Huntsville, Ala. – Thunderstorms and patchy fog could slow Thursday morning travel across northern Alabama, with up to half an inch of rain expected in Huntsville before conditions clear by Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, scattered thunderstorms will develop overnight and intensify Thursday between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., followed by additional showers through early Friday. A slight chance of severe storms remains, with gusty winds up to 20 mph and new rainfall totals between a quarter and half an inch possible.

Huntsville and Madison County residents may see localized street flooding or reduced visibility due to fog before 9 a.m. Thursday. Winds will shift from southwest to northwest through the afternoon, adding to rapidly changing conditions. Motorists are advised to avoid flooded roads and allow extra time for commutes.

Showers are expected to end before sunrise Friday, with skies clearing into the weekend. Saturday and Sunday are forecast to be sunny with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s, bringing welcome relief after a damp week.

More rain is possible Sunday afternoon, and residents should stay alert for updated advisories heading into next week.
