Huntsville, AL – Residents across North Alabama should prepare for dangerously low temperatures tonight, with a cold weather advisory in effect from 6 p.m. Tuesday through 9 a.m. Wednesday. Wind chill values could drop as low as -2 degrees along the I-65 corridor, raising the risk of frostbite and hypothermia.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Huntsville, temperatures will fall into the 6 to 12-degree range overnight, with wind speeds of 5 mph amplifying the cold. Officials urge residents to bundle up in layers, avoid prolonged outdoor exposure, and check on elderly neighbors and pets. Frozen pipes are another concern, so households should insulate plumbing and let faucets drip to prevent freezing.
Wednesday will bring some relief, with sunny skies and highs near 37 degrees. However, temperatures are expected to remain cold, especially overnight, dipping to around 24 degrees by Thursday morning. The remainder of the week will see mostly sunny conditions, with daytime highs in the low to mid-40s and nighttime lows hovering around freezing.
Drivers along I-65 and surrounding roads should be cautious of potential icy patches early Wednesday morning. Keep emergency supplies in your car and limit travel if possible during the advisory.
Officials recommend using space heaters carefully to prevent fire hazards and avoiding outdoor generators to reduce carbon monoxide risks. Stay informed through local weather updates and take proactive steps to stay warm and safe this week.
