Birmingham, Alabama – Triple-digit heat and the threat of damaging winds will hit central Alabama Wednesday afternoon as storms move in between 2 and 10 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, much of central and southeast Alabama is under a Level 2 risk for severe storms, with gusts reaching up to 60 mph. Affected cities include Montgomery, Clanton, Troy, and Eufaula. Heat index values are expected to top 105°F in several locations, pushing conditions into the “major risk” category for heat-related illness.

Montgomery may hit 99°F, with Birmingham, Selma, and Gadsden all climbing into the upper 90s. Despite slightly higher rain chances on Wednesday, the greater danger lies in storm winds capable of downing trees and powerlines, especially along the I-65 corridor.

Residents should limit outdoor exposure, hydrate frequently, and have multiple ways to receive alerts. Mobile devices should be charged, and secure shelter should be planned in case warnings are issued.

This heat pattern is expected to persist through Thursday, with some relief possible by the weekend.
Storm risks remain active until 10 p.m. Wednesday. More updates may follow.
