Birmingham, AL – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham has confirmed five tornadoes across Alabama as damage assessments continue following recent severe storms. Officials are investigating 16 areas for possible tornado activity.
According to the NWS, as of 3:45 p.m. Saturday, confirmed tornadoes include an EF-3 in Plantersville (Dallas County), an EF-2 in Winterboro (Talladega County), and EF-1 twisters in Calera and between Montevallo and Calea (both in Shelby County). An EF-0 was recorded near Thomas Mill in Bibb County.
Survey teams are working to determine the full extent of the damage, and additional tornado confirmations are expected. The NWS stated that the investigation could take several days, with more details to be shared via an interactive webpage.
