Huntsville, Alabama – A line of thunderstorms sweeping across northern Alabama today could bring gusty winds up to 60 mph and hail up to one inch in diameter, posing travel and safety risks across the region between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, storms began entering northwest Alabama around 6 a.m. Monday and will track eastward through the day before slowing near the northeast corner of the state this afternoon. While the overall chance of severe storms is low, isolated cells may intensify with strong wind gusts and quarter-size hail.

All of north Alabama, including Huntsville, Florence, and Gadsden, and parts of southern middle Tennessee are in the zone of potential impact. Emergency officials advise residents to stay weather aware, especially during afternoon activities, and have multiple ways to receive alerts. If thunder is heard or lightning is seen, move indoors immediately.

Localized flooding and brief travel disruptions are possible in heavier downpours. Although confidence is low for widespread damage, wind-sensitive structures and high-profile vehicles may be affected.

Additional advisories may be issued if storm conditions worsen this afternoon.
