Birmingham, Ala. – A round of strong storms is expected to sweep across central Alabama late Wednesday into Thursday morning, bringing damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and the potential for power outages and hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, a level 1 marginal risk has been issued for much of the state, including cities like Tuscaloosa, Anniston, Montgomery, and Auburn. The greatest concern is straight-line winds capable of knocking down trees and damaging structures. Showers and storms may continue into the day on Thursday.

Communities along I-65 and I-20 should prepare for overnight impacts, particularly between midnight and 8 a.m. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge mobile devices, and have multiple methods to receive weather alerts. Areas like Selma, Clanton, and Eufaula may also see storm-related disruptions.

This is the second wave of storms this week, though rain chances will ease during the day Wednesday before intensifying again overnight.

Severe weather alerts remain possible into Thursday. Stay tuned to local officials and the National Weather Service for real-time updates.
