Huntsville, Alabama – Strong storms are expected across northern Alabama and southern middle Tennessee today, with the greatest risks including damaging winds and heavy downpours between noon and 7 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, showers and thunderstorms have a 50–80% chance of developing, some of which could turn severe. Wind gusts, intense rainfall, and small hail are the main concerns, with timing varying by region: Florence and Russellville may see storms as early as 12–3 p.m., Huntsville and Fayetteville between 2–5 p.m., and Fort Payne and Stevenson from 4–7 p.m.

Gusty winds may impact travel on I-65 and US-72, especially during the evening commute. Residents in Cullman and surrounding areas should be alert for downed trees or isolated power outages. While tornado potential remains low, the NWS encourages everyone to have multiple ways to receive alerts — including phone notifications, weather radios, and local media.

This is a developing system, and additional warnings could be issued through the evening. Stay indoors during storms and secure outdoor objects ahead of time.
