Huntsville, Alabama – Severe thunderstorms packing damaging winds and heavy rainfall are expected to sweep across Alabama Friday and Saturday, posing a weekend threat across much of the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, storm chances will rapidly increase Friday, with a 60–70% likelihood of storms during the day and a 70–90% chance Saturday. Some storms could turn severe, especially during the late afternoon and evening hours. Highs will remain in the upper 80s to low 90s through the weekend, while overnight lows stay in the upper 60s.

North Alabama cities including Huntsville, Decatur, and Florence could see localized flooding, especially in low-lying areas. Damaging wind gusts are the primary concern, along with isolated downed trees and power outages. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, review emergency plans, and avoid driving through flooded roadways.

Warm, humid conditions will persist even as storms move through. The National Weather Service advises residents to monitor updated forecasts as timing and storm severity may shift.

Storm watches remain in effect through Saturday night, with additional alerts possible as systems develop.
