Birmingham, AL – Central Alabama is bracing for heavy rain and possible severe weather overnight and into Tuesday morning. Meteorologists predict the heaviest rain across southern portions of the state, bringing 1 to 2 inches of rainfall.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), there is a marginal risk (Level 1 out of 5) of damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph. This threat primarily affects the western two-thirds of Central Alabama, especially during the morning hours.
The rainfall is expected to be mostly beneficial, though minor flooding could occur in poor drainage areas south of Highway 80. NWS warns of localized trouble spots, with flood risks at 20-30%.
Residents should monitor alerts, ensure safety plans are in place, and avoid flooded areas. NWS advises keeping multiple ways to receive updates during this weather event.
The system will pass by noon Tuesday, leaving behind much-needed moisture for the region. Rainfall totals could improve soil conditions and water reservoirs, making the event advantageous despite mild risks.
