Huntsville, Alabama – Drivers across north Alabama face reduced visibility this morning as dense fog settles into river valleys, creating hazardous conditions during the early commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, patchy dense fog developed around 3:51 a.m., especially in low-lying areas of the Tennessee Valley. Motorists are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and increase following distance on fog-prone roads such as U.S. 72, I-565, and local routes near the Flint and Tennessee Rivers.
Visibility may drop below a quarter mile in some areas, particularly in Madison, Limestone, and Jackson counties. Emergency officials recommend delaying travel if possible until the fog lifts mid-morning.
Those commuting through Decatur, Scottsboro, and along the I-65 corridor should be extra cautious, as rapidly changing visibility may affect intersections and on-ramps. This type of fog is common during spring temperature swings and tends to persist after sunrise, especially near bodies of water.
The dense fog threat is expected to ease by 9 a.m., but updates may follow if conditions worsen. Stay tuned to local alerts and give yourself extra time on the road.
