Valdosta, Georgia – Drivers and residents along the I-75 corridor in southwest Georgia should brace for severe thunderstorms today, with damaging wind gusts and frequent lightning posing the greatest threats. The National Weather Service has issued a Level 2 out of 5 “Slight Risk” warning for scattered severe storms through this evening.

According to the NWS Tallahassee office, the severe weather threat is highest from late morning through early evening across areas including Valdosta, Moultrie, and Tifton. A “Marginal Risk” zone covers surrounding parts of southern Georgia and the eastern Florida Panhandle. Brief tornadoes are also possible, particularly in North Florida communities like Marianna and Cross City.

Storms may disrupt travel on major routes like I-75 and U.S. Highway 84, with downed limbs or power outages likely in isolated areas. Emergency officials urge residents to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours, and have multiple ways to receive warnings.

This round of storms is the first of two expected to impact the region, with another “Slight Risk” day forecast for Friday. Warnings remain in effect through tonight, and updated advisories are expected by early Friday morning.
