Mobile, AL – A dense fog advisory is in effect for southwest Alabama and the Florida Panhandle until 8 a.m. CST Thursday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile. The advisory impacts multiple counties, including Mobile and Baldwin in Alabama, as well as Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa in Florida.

According to the NWS, visibility is expected to drop to one-quarter mile or less in many areas, making travel hazardous overnight and into the early morning hours. Cities affected include Mobile, Foley, Gulf Shores, Pensacola, Fort Walton Beach, and surrounding areas.

Drivers are urged to use caution, reduce speed, and keep headlights on while navigating through foggy conditions. Authorities recommend leaving extra space between vehicles to allow for sudden stops due to limited visibility.

The dense fog may also impact coastal areas, including beaches and waterways, where maritime travel could be affected. Boaters should take necessary precautions and consider delaying trips until conditions improve.

The fog is expected to lift by mid-morning Thursday as temperatures rise and visibility improves. However, travelers should check for updates from the NWS and local traffic advisories before heading out.
