Mobile, AL – Drivers along the Alabama and Florida Gulf Coast faced hazardous conditions Wednesday morning as dense fog blanketed the region, with gusty winds expected to follow through Thursday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Mobile, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. CDT for counties including Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa. Visibility in many areas is reduced to a quarter-mile or less, creating dangerous conditions on roads from Pensacola to Gulf Shores.

A Wind Advisory is also active from 10 a.m. Wednesday until 7 p.m. Thursday, impacting the same areas. Southeast winds are forecast to reach 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, especially near coastal cities such as Dauphin Island, Orange Beach, and Destin.

Drivers are urged to slow down, use low beams, and maintain extra following distance in fog-affected zones. For wind conditions, secure outdoor items and use caution when driving high-profile vehicles.

The fog is expected to lift by late morning, but wind risks will persist into Thursday evening. Historically, springtime winds this strong have caused minor power outages and downed limbs across the region.

Travelers should monitor updates from local emergency agencies and the National Weather Service.
