Montgomery, Ala. – Drivers across central and eastern Alabama are waking up to dangerous road conditions Friday morning as dense fog reduces visibility to a quarter-mile or less in multiple counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 8 a.m. CDT, impacting Autauga, Bullock, Chambers, Chilton, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Elmore, Lowndes, Macon, Montgomery, Pike, Randolph, and Tallapoosa counties.

The advisory includes cities such as Montgomery, Troy, Clanton, Valley, and Alexander City, where early commuters are urged to use extreme caution. Poor visibility on roads like I-65, US-231, and US-280 may lead to sudden slowdowns and increased crash risk.

If you must drive, turn on low-beam headlights, reduce speed, and maintain extra following distance. Avoid using cruise control in foggy conditions.

This morning’s fog is expected to lift by mid-morning as temperatures rise, but patchy areas may linger in low-lying or rural zones. Stay tuned for any updates if conditions fail to improve.
