Birmingham, AL – A frost advisory has been issued for much of central and southern Alabama, with temperatures expected to dip as low as 33 degrees early Sunday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, the advisory will be in effect from 3 a.m. to 8 a.m. Sunday across several counties, including Jefferson, Shelby, Tuscaloosa, and Montgomery. Meanwhile, the Mobile office has issued a similar advisory for southern Alabama and parts of southeast Mississippi, from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday.
The cooler temperatures are expected to result in widespread frost formation, which could harm sensitive outdoor plants if left uncovered. Residents are urged to take precautions to protect tender vegetation from the cold.
Counties under the frost advisory include those surrounding Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Auburn, Montgomery, and extending south to areas like Andalusia and Brewton.
Temperatures will likely rebound later Sunday morning, but officials stress the importance of preparing for the early frost, particularly for agricultural or ornamental plants.
