Birmingham, AL – A Tornado Watch is in effect for western Central Alabama until 10 a.m. Saturday, as severe storms move in from Mississippi. The National Weather Service warns that a couple of tornadoes are possible, along with hail up to quarter size and wind gusts reaching 70 mph. Areas under the watch include Florence, Huntsville, Tuscaloosa, and Jasper, affecting nearly 2.4 million residents.
Meanwhile, Middle Tennessee is bracing for storms set to arrive around 3 a.m. Saturday, with severe weather risks increasing throughout the morning. According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, a capping inversion is currently suppressing thunderstorms, but conditions will become more favorable for storm development in the coming hours.
The severe weather outlook places parts of Middle Tennessee under a moderate risk (level 4 of 5) for severe storms, with the rest of the region at enhanced risk (level 3 of 5). The primary threats include large tornadoes, damaging straight-line winds, and large hail, with a Flood Watch also in effect.
Residents should stay weather-aware overnight and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions as storms move through the region.
