Brewton, Ala. – Drivers in southern Alabama and the Florida Panhandle are waking up to dangerous travel conditions Friday morning as thick fog reduces visibility to just a quarter mile or less across several counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Mobile, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. CDT Friday for Conecuh, Escambia, and Covington counties in Alabama, as well as inland portions of Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties in Florida. The low visibility could create hazardous driving conditions, especially on rural highways and early morning commutes.

Areas including Andalusia, Atmore, Brewton, Evergreen, Crestview, and Milton are under the advisory. Drivers are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and leave extra space between vehicles. School bus routes and local deliveries may also experience delays due to limited sightlines on smaller roads such as U.S. Highway 29 and Alabama State Route 41.

Fog is expected to gradually lift by mid-morning as temperatures rise, but pockets of reduced visibility may persist in low-lying or wooded areas.

This is the 18th fog advisory issued by the Mobile office this season, and officials warn more could follow if conditions remain humid overnight.
