Wichita, KS — South-central Kansas is bracing for snow today as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until Friday morning. Forecasters warn of snow accumulation between 1 and 3 inches, particularly along the Kansas Turnpike and southeast of Wichita, which could create hazardous road conditions during the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), snow is expected to develop late Thursday afternoon and persist into the night. Travel could become treacherous as roads may turn slick, especially in Kingman and Sedgwick counties. Motorists are advised to slow down, allow extra travel time, and check updated road conditions by calling 511.

The five-day forecast shows partly sunny skies on Friday with a high near 30°F, followed by clear and cold conditions into the weekend. Saturday and Sunday are expected to remain mostly sunny, with daytime highs around 33°F and nighttime lows dipping into the mid-teens.

While this snowfall may not be heavy, its timing coincides with peak travel hours, prompting additional caution. Residents in affected areas should monitor updates from the NWS and avoid unnecessary travel during high-impact periods.

The NWS reminds travelers to prepare for reduced visibility and to ensure vehicles are equipped for winter weather. Local impacts could vary, with higher snowfall expected southeast of the Kansas Turnpike.
