Pendleton, Oregon – Residents across the region should prepare for a wet stretch as shower and isolated thunderstorm activity moves through the area, continuing through Monday morning. While the precipitation is expected to be largely beneficial for the landscape, the primary concern remains local lightning strikes, which could present hazards in various communities through the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, this rainfall event is active from now until 5 a.m. Monday. The weather pattern is bringing varying liquid precipitation totals, with significantly higher amounts targeted for the mountain zones compared to lower elevations. Officials note that while the rain is welcome, individuals should remain aware of potential lightning strikes, especially during isolated storm developments.
The current meteorological outlook highlights a distinct disparity in rainfall accumulation. High-end estimates indicate the potential for up to 1.1 inches of liquid precipitation in specific regions like The Dalles and Enterprise, while lower-end scenarios suggest much lighter amounts, with some areas seeing less than 0.1 inches. Mountain zones will bear the brunt of the heavier precipitation, while the lower elevations are expected to see more modest moisture totals.

With the risk of lightning, residents are advised to keep an eye on the sky and move indoors if thunder is heard. Although these rains are categorized as mostly beneficial for the region, motorists should exercise caution on slick roadways, particularly in mountainous transit corridors where visibility may occasionally drop during heavier downpours. The weather pattern is expected to persist through the duration of the weekend, with the final conditions clearing out by early Monday morning.
