Dorchester County man charged after shooting at Cambridge Apartments

Dorchester County, SC – The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office has taken a Vero Beach, Florida, man into custody following a shooting at the Cambridge Apartments on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. Deputies arrived at the scene at 559 Orangeburg Road at approximately 2:01 A.M. to find one victim suffering from a gunshot wound.
According to authorities, deputies immediately began rendering lifesaving aid to the victim, who was subsequently transported to a local hospital. Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division responded to the location to initiate an investigation into the incident. Following a preliminary investigation, officials identified 25-year-old Demetrius Taylor as the suspect in the shooting.
Taylor allegedly faces a string of serious charges, including attempted murder, first-degree burglary, and domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature. He also faces charges of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and unlawful neglect of a child. As of Tuesday, September 8, 2026, he remains in custody at the L.C. Knight Detention Center.
The Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the investigation into the circumstances of the shooting remains active and ongoing. Officials continue to process evidence as they work to complete the case. No further details regarding the victim’s condition have been released at this time.
