Chesterton Police Capture Illinois Homicide Suspect on I-94

Chesterton, Indiana – A person of interest in an Elgin, Illinois, homicide investigation was taken into custody on Sunday, August 30, following a coordinated effort by local and state law enforcement agencies on I-94.

According to the Chesterton Police Department, officers utilized license plate recognition technology to track a white Ford F-150 driven by 54-year-old Christian B. Flores. After receiving a criminal bulletin, local police staged along the interstate and successfully stopped the vehicle, where Flores was detained without incident.

Flores allegedly killed his ex-girlfriend in her home using a knife and a dumbbell, according to media reports. Following his apprehension, detectives from Elgin arrived to interview him, and he is expected to face charges of first-degree murder. Flores remains held at the Porter County Jail pending extradition to Illinois.

Chesterton Police Chief Tim Richardson commended the interagency cooperation and the use of real-time technology in the safe capture of the suspect.
