Audit verifies 99% of Georgia

(The Center Square) – The identities of more than 99% of Georgians on the 2025 voter rolls were verified in an audit conducted by the state Department of Audits and Accounts.

The audit requested by the Senate Appropriations Committee found that most of the 17,855 records that could not be matched either included a Social Security number or were held pending further documentation.

"Nevertheless, we estimate between 790 and 1,160 voters’ identities cannot be confirmed with information listed on the registration, yet their status does not indicate further documentation is needed prior to voting," auditors said in the report. "Among the 7.9 million voter records with a driver’s license number, we identified approximately 2,600 voters currently or previously in active status who could not be verified as U.S. citizens on their REAL ID, through federal database searches, or in the voter registration system."

Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said the audit backs his statements that Georgia's voter rolls are clean.

“Election integrity isn't a slogan,” Raffensperger said. “It is the daily work of checking the voter rolls, verifying eligibility, sharing information with our counties and continually improving our systems. Georgia has done that work. The numbers speak for themselves: 99.9% accuracy."

The secretary of state's election division received $15.3 million in fiscal year 2026, which began on July 1, 2025 and ended on June 30, 2026. The division also received $15 million for grants to county election offices, according to the audit.

Georgia's elections have been under scrutiny since 2020, when President Donald Trump lost Georgia to former President Joe Biden. Trump has repeatedly said he won the election. Biden defeated Trump 306-232 in the Electoral College. Georgia contributed 16 electoral votes to the Democrats' win, not enough by itself to reverse the 74 votes needed to overcome Biden.

The Trump administration has initiated investigations into the election.

CNN reported that the Department of Homeland Security was initiating an investigation into voter fraud in nine states, including Georgia. The secretary of state's office said in an email to The Center Square that it has received a subpoena seeking records for 13 people.

“While ICE Homeland Security Investigations is not able to comment on any active investigations, HSI is actively rooting out and investigating election fraud wherever it can be found," the agency said in the statement provided to The Center Square. "We have repeatedly demonstrated that illegal aliens can and do vote in our elections. Under President Trump, HSI is committed to restoring integrity to our election systems and ensuring that American citizens and only American citizens are electing American leaders."

The FBI raided the Fulton County Registration and Elections office in January, seizing more than 600 boxes of tabulator tapes, ballots and other election-related materials.

FBI special agent Hugh Raymond Evans said in the warrant that the documents were part of an ongoing criminal investigation. In the nearly nine months since the raid, no criminal charges have been filed, and no end date has been given for the probe.

In addition to the voter rolls, state lawmakers have also questioned the Dominion voting system. A legislative panel tasked with recommending a new system holds its second meeting on Thursday.
