Blazing sunshine reflected off concrete, rooftops, and desert rock across the Valley by late morning as Phoenix surged toward another near-100-degree afternoon. Dry air and light winds kept conditions comfortable early, but the heat intensified quickly before lunchtime.
According to the National Weather Service, Phoenix is expected to climb to 99 degrees today with mainly sunny skies continuing through much of the upcoming week. Temperatures stay locked in the upper 90s through Tuesday before easing slightly by midweek.
Drivers along Interstate 10, Loop 101, and State Route 51 should prepare for intense pavement heat during peak afternoon hours. Interior vehicle temperatures can rise rapidly in just minutes, especially near downtown Phoenix, Tempe, and Mesa. Sky Harbor International Airport also faces periods of breezy crosswinds Wednesday afternoon as gusts approach 25 mph.
The dry pattern remains firmly in place across central Arizona. While storm chances stay near zero around Phoenix, isolated mountain showers may develop farther north and east by midweek as moisture slowly increases across parts of the interior West.
Outdoor plans remain favorable for Memorial Day events, hiking, and pool traffic, though hydration becomes increasingly important during the hottest part of the afternoon. Park rangers across Camelback Mountain and South Mountain continue urging hikers to finish strenuous activity before early afternoon as temperatures approach dangerous levels on exposed trails.
Wednesday brings slightly stronger winds and highs near 96 degrees before another warmup develops later next week. Longer-range outlooks continue signaling above-normal temperatures across much of Arizona heading into early June.
