Minnesota’s North Shore woke up wrapped in dense fog late this morning as gray mist drifted across Duluth Harbor and low clouds blurred the skyline near Lake Superior. Visibility dropped sharply near bridges and waterfront roads, creating slow travel conditions along I-35 and Highway 61 before gradual improvement closer to midday.
According to the National Weather Service, a Dense Fog Advisory remained in effect for Duluth through 10 a.m. as visibility fell to around a quarter mile near the harbor and higher terrain. Damp pavement and pockets of thicker fog continued to reduce visibility for drivers near the Twin Ports and surrounding communities.
Conditions steadily improve through the afternoon as southwest winds increase and temperatures climb toward 70 degrees. A few brief showers may develop around midday, but much of northern Minnesota should turn brighter heading into the evening.
The bigger weather story arrives early this week as warmer air pushes north into the Upper Midwest. Duluth could jump from chilly lower 40s this morning to near 81 degrees by Tuesday afternoon. That sharp temperature swing will bring a much different feel across the region, especially inland away from Lake Superior’s cooler shoreline.
Tuesday currently looks dry and bright, offering one of the better outdoor stretches of the upcoming week. Breezy east winds return Wednesday, however, knocking temperatures back into the lower 60s near the lake while keeping inland areas milder.
Across the northern Plains and Upper Midwest, the broader weather pattern remains active. Wet conditions continue farther east while western warmth gradually shifts into the central states. For now, Duluth stays on the quieter side of the national weather picture with only isolated rain chances through midweek.
Long-range outlooks continue signaling above-normal temperatures across much of Minnesota heading into early June.
