Pueblo, Colorado – Outdoor Memorial Day weekend plans across southern Colorado could face increasing disruption as near-90-degree heat combines with growing thunderstorm chances from the mountains to the southeast plains.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, temperatures Sunday are expected to climb to around 90 degrees across portions of the southeast plains, including La Junta, Lamar and Springfield. Isolated thunderstorms may develop during the afternoon across the mountains and far southeast Colorado before storm coverage increases more significantly Monday and Tuesday.
Communities along the Interstate 25 corridor, including Pueblo, Colorado Springs, Trinidad and Walsenburg, are expected to stay warm and mostly dry through much of Sunday. However, isolated storms developing over higher terrain could produce lightning, gusty winds and brief heavy rainfall by late afternoon. Drivers traveling along U.S. 50 and I-25 should remain alert for sudden visibility changes near stronger storms.
Temperatures across Pueblo are forecast to reach 88 degrees Sunday before cooling slightly into the low 80s Monday and Tuesday as moisture increases across the region. La Junta and Lamar could peak near 92 and 94 degrees Sunday, creating elevated heat concerns for outdoor recreation and holiday events during the hottest part of the afternoon.
