Detroit, Michigan – Drivers across southeast Michigan could encounter wet roads and reduced visibility Sunday afternoon as a line of showers and embedded thunderstorms tracks across the Detroit metro during the busy Memorial Day weekend travel period.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, rain chances range between 60% and 80% Sunday, with scattered thunderstorms possible as showers move west to east through the region. Gusty winds and brief heavier downpours may impact travel along Interstate 94, I-75 and the Lodge Freeway before conditions gradually improve overnight.
Communities including Detroit, Ann Arbor, Flint and Pontiac are expected to remain cool Sunday with highs between 65 and 72 degrees. Forecasters also note patchy fog may develop by early Monday morning before skies clear into the afternoon. Memorial Day itself is expected to stay mostly dry and warmer, with highs climbing into the upper 70s and low 80s across much of southeast Michigan.
The warming trend continues Tuesday as temperatures surge between 81 and 88 degrees, bringing some of the warmest air of the season so far. Another round of showers and thunderstorms may return Wednesday, though current storm coverage appears lower than Sunday’s system.
Residents planning outdoor Memorial Day events are encouraged to monitor weather alerts through Sunday evening and avoid flooded roads during heavier rain. Additional advisories could be issued if thunderstorms strengthen later today.
