Detroit, Michigan – Dry and mild conditions will give way to incoming thunderstorms late Monday, with rain expected to impact evening travel and overnight commutes across southeast Michigan.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, sunshine will dominate Sunday with highs between 57 and 65 degrees. Monday warms further, reaching 65 to 76 degrees before conditions shift quickly after sunset. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to move in between 9 p.m. and midnight, continuing through early Tuesday morning.
The greatest impacts are expected along major corridors including I-94, I-75, and I-96, where wet pavement and reduced visibility could slow traffic overnight into the Tuesday morning commute. Cities such as Detroit, Ann Arbor, Flint, and Pontiac will all see periods of rain, with embedded thunderstorms capable of brief heavy downpours.
While severe weather is not the primary concern, drivers should prepare for slick roads and allow extra time late Monday night into Tuesday morning. Keep devices charged and monitor alerts in case stronger storms develop.
Conditions will dry out by midday Tuesday, followed by a noticeable cooldown midweek with highs dropping into the 50s by Wednesday and Thursday. Additional updates are expected as the timing of Monday night’s storms becomes more precise.
