Buffalo, New York – Widespread rain will continue through the day Saturday across western and central New York, with steady showers and embedded thunderstorms creating slick roads and reduced visibility through the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, areas south of Lake Ontario will see the heaviest rainfall, with totals ranging from 0.50 to 1.00 inches by late evening. Higher amounts up to 1.50 inches are possible across parts of the western and northern Finger Lakes, increasing the risk of ponding on roadways.

Cities including Buffalo, Rochester, Batavia, and Jamestown will experience persistent rain through much of the day. Major corridors such as Interstate 90, Interstate 290, and Interstate 490 could see slower travel due to water-covered lanes and reduced visibility, especially during heavier downpours. While widespread flooding is not expected, localized drainage issues may develop in low-lying areas.

Drivers should allow extra time, use headlights in rain, and avoid areas where water collects on roadways. Residents should also monitor for brief thunderstorms that could produce gusty winds.

Rain will taper off after about 8 p.m., with drier conditions expected Sunday into early next week. Additional updates will be issued if rainfall totals increase or storms intensify.
