Huntsville, Alabama – North Alabama residents will see a rapid swing in weather over the next several days, with temperatures climbing into the 70s this weekend before strong storms Sunday night are followed by a sharp blast of cold air.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, temperatures remain cooler Thursday with highs only reaching the mid-50s, roughly 20 to 25 degrees cooler than Wednesday. Skies will stay mostly sunny, though breezy conditions may develop during the afternoon.
Early Friday morning could bring patchy frost across parts of northern Alabama, particularly in rural valleys where overnight lows fall into the upper 30s.
The warmest weather arrives over the weekend. High temperatures are expected to reach the low to mid-70s Saturday and Sunday, but forecasters say a strong storm system will move into the Tennessee Valley late Sunday.
Storm chances increase significantly Sunday night into early Monday, with 80–90% coverage possible and the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms across cities including Huntsville, Decatur, Florence and Scottsboro.
Behind the front, temperatures will plunge Monday with highs only in the low to mid-40s, and a few light flurries cannot be ruled out before precipitation ends.
Even colder air arrives early Tuesday morning, when forecasters say a hard freeze is possible across north Alabama.
Residents should monitor updates through the weekend as severe weather potential becomes clearer.
