Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – Anyone heading out in the Delaware Valley Thursday morning may feel mild spring air, but temperatures will fall steadily through the afternoon as colder air sweeps into the region, dropping readings into the mid to upper 30s by late day.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, the day’s highest temperatures will occur early before the cold air surge arrives. Philadelphia is expected to reach around 55°F early Thursday, but readings will slide through the afternoon as winds increase and colder air moves south.
Across the region, Trenton may briefly reach 57°F, while Wilmington climbs near 53°F and Atlantic City peaks near 57°F before temperatures begin dropping later in the day. Inland areas will cool even faster, with Allentown near 49°F and Mount Pocono only reaching about 38°F.
By mid-afternoon, most communities across southeast Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, and northern Delaware will see temperatures settle into the mid to upper 30s, creating a noticeably colder feel compared to the past several days.
The temperature drop follows the passage of a cold front that will shift winds and push colder air into the region through the afternoon.
Residents heading out later Thursday should dress for colder conditions, as temperatures by evening will feel much more like late winter than early spring. Forecasters say additional weather changes could arrive heading into the weekend.
